Read on to learn more.

Myth #1: These floors require zero maintenance.

This is, by far, one of the most common myths about commercial concrete flooring. For decades people have believed that these floors require zero maintenance which led to growingdissatisfaction with appearance and performance. But, let me tell you something – there is no such thing as a maintenance-free surface, there is no flooring that requires zero maintenance. While it’s easier to maintain concrete flooring compared to some other surfaces, they do need care and pampering to look great and stay durable.

Myth #2: You don’t need chemicals to maintain commercial concrete flooring.

Concrete puts up with the same amount of traffic as other types of floor, and it also endures other types of “abuse” such as spillage. A bucket of water and mop aren’t able to remove all the impurities and leave the floor looking fresh and clean. You do need some chemicals in order to break down, remove, and clean dirt, debris, and other impurities. Ideally, you should opt for a cleaning solution that is specifically designed for concrete flooring. Also, if using a floor machine, you may want to opt for concrete cleaning solutions and products with a low-friction lubricant. Automatic scrubber or scrubber alternative is recommended for large surfaces.

Myth #3: Cleaning staff knowshow to maintain and clean commercial concrete flooring.

A common misconception that many business owners have is that they assume the cleaning staff knows how to maintain and clean just about any surface. That’s not always the case. Some people have never had experience with these floors or they’ve never worked in that type of environment. Inadequate maintenance is just as bad as no maintenance at all. Before you let anyone clean concrete floors make sure they have experience with that type of flooring.

Myth #4: Sealant isn’t that necessary.

Even though it is not mandatory, it’s still highly recommended to apply sealant to the floor even when no finish is applied at all. Why? The reason is simple; sealant prevents moisture and soil from working their way into the concrete which would make it damaged and unappealing in the long run. Let’s not forget that sealed flooring is easier to maintain.

Commercial concrete flooring requires proper maintenance in order to stay durable and appealing for a long time. However, most people are convinced no maintenance is necessary at all. For all questions about commercial concrete flooring feel free to contact us.
