All about Epoxy Flooring

If you are on the lookout for strong, easy to maintain and durable floors that still look amazing, epoxy flooring may be the perfect solution for you. Epoxy floors are not the most popular type of floors out there. However, they definitely make up for their lack of popularity with high function, a great appearance and excellent value for money.

The simplest definition of an epoxy floor is that it is a surface made up of multiple epoxy layers. The layers are applied to the floor at a minimum depth of 2 millimetres. The difference between an epoxy coated floor and an epoxy floor is the depth of the epoxy layers. A floor with an epoxy layer that is less than 2 millimetres in thickness is considered a floor with an epoxy flooring. So, what exactly is epoxy? This is actually a system consisting of hardeners and resins. These two components are mixed together to prompt a chemical reaction that results in a strong and highly resistant plastic material that is bonded perfectly to its substrate. Epoxy floors are the preferred choice for industrial environments and other high-traffic and highly damage prone areas.

Epoxy floors come in several different types. Self-dispersing epoxy floors are very strong and excellent for areas that tend to get walked-on a lot. Another variation of this type of epoxy floor is self-dispersing epoxy floors with quartz sand. These floors are pretty much the same as the previous type but they have excellent anti-slip properties. Self-levelling epoxy floors are excellent for kitchens, dining rooms and other areas that you wish to clean up fast and free from any hassle. The strongest available type of epoxy floor is mortar epoxy floors. These are highly resilient and durable and are often used by floor laying professionals as a way of repairing cracks before the application of other types of epoxy floors. Gravelled epoxy floors are a great choice if you are on the lookout for a decorative option. However, they are highly complicated when it comes to laying. Nevertheless, gravelled epoxy floors have great anti-slip properties. If you are seeking for an epoxy floor option for a large open space, consider epoxy terrazzo floors. These are highly decorative and excellent for large areas. If you are looking for a flooring option for areas in which static should not be present, consider epoxy antistatic floors. They are ideal for sensitive locations. Epoxy flaked floors are another type of floor that is epoxy based. However, they have coloured flakes or chips added for decoration. The flakes and chips also provide anti-slip qualities. You can choose the flakes and chips in a variety of different colours and combine them to your liking.

It is obvious that epoxy floors are a financial efficient, durable and versatile flooring solution. If you are thinking of installing any type of epoxy floor, contact us at Flash Flooring today, for more information.
