This depends entirely on your preferences and the requirements of your property. Step 1 – Grinding

Grinding the concrete is the first step of creating a polished concrete floor. The grinding is carried out using grits 30, 70 and 120. Then, resin pads of0, 100 and 200 grit are used to achieve a somewhat smooth surface.

Step 2 – The application of densifier and stains

The next step in the process, after the grinding with 200 grit resin is complete, is the application of stains and densifier. Depending on your requirement, any type of dye or stain can be used to achieve a nice coloured concrete effect. If it is necessary, a concrete densifier can be applied at this stage.

Step 3 – Honing

Next, the concrete surface needs to be polished with a 400-grit resin. This is the stage of the process in which a nice shine will begin to appear. Depending on the chosen resin grit, the clarity and brightness of the sheen will vary. Consult with your polished concrete services provider to choose the right resin grit to suit your exact requirements.

Step 4 – Polishing

At this stage, the concrete will be polished further, with resin grits 800, 1,500 and 3,000. Depending on the level of shine you desire, you can continue the final resin processes. If you continue all the way through to the 3,000 grit resin, your floor will have an almost mirror-like shine for a high-gloss finish.

Step 4 – Completion

The final stage is the use of a burnishing pad once all the polishing steps are over. This will clean up the final concrete floor and create a bit of extra shine.
